Multiple authors may work together collaborating while creating course content. The LCMS provides several functions supporting multiple authoring:

Entering Content Into the LCMS

There are three ways to enter content into the repository:

  1. Publish a course from the IBM Authoring and Assembly Tool

  2. Import SCORM content.

  3. Import files into a web folder using WebDAV

Publishing a Course from IBM AAT

Courses can be published from the IBM Lotus Authoring Tool to the LCMS in the same way as it is published to the LMS. When publishing to the LCMS, use the same user name and password as used when publishing directly to the IBM Lotus LMS. The only difference is that the Learning Management System Server field in the publishing guide should be set to the LCMS URL instead of the IBM Lotus LMS URL. (example: http://lcms.corp.com/lcms/lms-lmm/import)

When the LCMS receives the course it automatically sends it on to the IBM Lotus LMS and keeps a copy in the LCMS. This means that an author only needs to publish once.

Note

Please refer to the local system administrator for the correct URL to the LCMS.

Importing SCORM Content

Importing SCORM content is the process of uploading a package interchange file to the LCMS.

To import a SCORM package, first select the folder where the course package is to be stored by clicking on the name of the folder in the repository view. Then click Import, the Import SCORM content window appears. Click Browse and select the package file and click OK.

The package will now be uploaded to the system. When the file is uploaded the package will be available in a course package in the system.

Note

A package cannot be imported by copying it to a web folder.

The LCMS supports SCORM 1.2 and the IBM extentions to SCORM 1.2.

Using WebDAV for File Uploading

WebDAV is a technology used for transferring files to and from a file archive in the system. WebDAV makes it possible for users to have file archives available as web folders on their desktop.

Warning

WebDAV exposes SCORM system files such as imsmanifest.xml etc. These should not be edited.

Configure WebDAV for File Uploading

To enable a file archive as a web folder on the system desktop, first select a file archive in the Repository View. The URL of the file archive is displayed, for example http://lcms.mindspan.com:80/webdav/139. Copy this link. If using Windows, select Network on the desktop and Add a network place. Paste the link to the file archive when prompted in the creation process. User name and password must be provided to the system before the file archive will be available on the desktop.

Note

For more exact instructions on how to create a web folder on the desktop, refer to the documentation available for the operating system.

Transferring Files

To upload files, locate the files on the local computer and copy them. Then go to the web folder and paste them. The files will then be uploaded to the system. This process will take some time depending on the size of the files and the available network bandwidth.

To download a file, go to the web folder and copy the desired files. These can then be paste'd into another folder on the local computer.

Note

Files in a web folder are actually stored in the LCMS.
